Bangalore: Imagine marking attendance on mobile. Seshadripuram First Grade College, Yelahanka, has introduced this.
How is it done? The teacher will be given a password. Once the teacher enters the password, he/she will get courses--section--subject. After this series, names of the students' list is displayed. After the attendance is taken, that has to be the first 15 minutes, data will be automatically entered in the server.
1x1 polls
If a student is continuously absent for three days, then the name of candidate will be highlighted in the server. Class teacher will check the attendance of all subjects and the student's name that is highlighted, and an SMS will be sent to the parents' number.
"The response is good. The moment parents receive the SMS on student's attendance or performance, they immediately contact us. Moreover, any teacher can show the attendance as the entire college database of 3,000 will be in the phone,'' principal M Prakash said.
TEACHERSPEAK
"Consolidating marks, marking attendance are so much simpler with this latest technology. Also, a lot of time is saved, which can be used for teaching. Previously, we would sometime wait till the end of class hours to mark attendance but now students know they cannot afford to be late as the attendance is recorded within first 15 minutes.''

STUDENTSPEAK
"When one of the teachers entered the class with the mobile phone, we thought it was her mobile. Then, she informed us that the attendance would be marked through the phone. She said if there were regular absentees, then the information would be sent to their parents. We write our tests on phone. I find it easy to operate. There is no scope for malpractice as the questions are jumbled.''
